Oct 28, 2014 · UK orders four more F-35B stealth jets as partners work to reduce the cost of the controversial fighter-bomber. The new F-35Bs – expected to be delivered from mid-2016 – are part of an 43-jet international order agreed with Lockheed Martin as the company increases production of the controversial aircraft.
It is expected that all 138 F-35 aircraft will have been delivered by the 2030s. Around 2023, the Ministry of Defence have indicated that the UK will have 42 F-35 aircraft with 24 available as ‘front-line fighters’ and the remaining 18 will be used for training (at least 5 on the OCU), be in reserve or in maintenance.
The UK government has committed to buying up to 138 F-35s, and has already taken delivery of at least three jets for evaluation and testing.
